Did it rain? Museum!

Art Gallery of NSW

The best-known tip on what to do in Sydney on a rainy day is to visit the city's museums, which are very good and varied. Among the many museums and galleries, the Art Gallery of NSW stands out. With a wide-ranging permanent collection, from Aboriginal to European to Asian works, the Art Gallery of NSW is free to all.

Two other interesting museums are: The Australian Museum, focussed on natural history (a must-see for children and science fans) and with paid admission, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, dedicated to contemporary art, which is completely free.

Enjoy the night

Sydney is a large city with a high-income population and a very cool neighbourhood, so there are plenty of options for going out at night. One of the most traditional and charming options is to visit the stylish bars and restaurants, most of them in historic buildings, in the The Rocks neighbourhood.

Just outside the centre of Sydney is Newtown, one of the districts with the widest choice of bars, cafés, restaurants and nightclubs. Newton is known as an eclectic, colourful and alternative district with people from all walks of life. It's well worth putting your rainy night aside and getting to know this little part of Sydney.

Fun!

Another super fun option on what to do in Sydney on a rainy day is to go to the bars that have Arcade Games, which are places full of games. This is certainly one of the best ways to spend a few rainy hours.

You can also opt for bowling, indoor trampolining and other indoor sports, which Australians love. In Sydney, one of the most popular places is the Sky Zone.

Tour of the Opera House

The symbol of Sydney, the Opera House, is an attraction that requires a good day to take photos and contemplate it calmly. On a rainy day, one option is to take the Opera House tour. This tour tells the story of this engineering marvel on a guided tour.

For the price of the tour, which is quite steep, you might be able to attend a concert, but you'll have to get in early to get the cheapest seats. So it's not an activity to do at short notice, like the activities in this post on what to do in Sydney on a rainy day.

Going to church

St Andrew's Cathedral

Australia's 19th century churches tend to be neo-Gothic, which makes them an ideal outing for those who love architecture. The best-known church is the beautiful St Andrew's Cathedral, the oldest in Australia, founded in 1819.

The external architecture of St Andrew's Cathedral is very striking due to its pointed towers. But the inside doesn't disappoint, it's beautiful and superbly preserved. It's worth a visit!

Another beautiful neo-Gothic church that shouldn't be left out of your Sydney trip itinerary is St Mary's Cathedral. We think it's even more beautiful than St Andrew's Cathedral.

Let's go shopping!

Queen Victoria Building

Sydney is known for having great shopping centres, historic fashion buildings and streets full of boutiques. Of course, shopping in Sydney can be expensive for those who earn in Brazilian Real, but just looking doesn't pay!

The most magnificent place to shop is the Queen Victoria Building, a 19th century building with neoclassical architecture. The building is beautiful inside and out and has three floors of shops.

What's more, the railway station is below the Queen Victoria Building, so you don't have to set foot outside. There are also modern shopping centres such as Strand Arcade and Westfield Sydney.

Eat, eat and eat!

Sydney is a very culturally rich city because each immigrant has brought their own customs, culture and food. So look for some cuisine you've never tasted before and be surprised by the flavours of different countries.

I highly recommend Vietnamese, Thai and hot Japanese food. You won't be short of options, especially as Asian food is comparatively cheap in Sydney!
